        Can a machine move beautifully?

        We wanted to create a small creature-like robot that expresses emotions through movement rather than words or faces.
        Inspired by Luxo Jr., Guy Hoffman, Wendy Ju, and Apple’s ELEGANT paper on expressive motion.

        We designed a small robot that observes a person standing in front of a camera and gives a judgement through the physical movement of a servo motor.

        The project is intended to be an eye-catching interactive object. The scoring system of this robot is designed as a black box, meaning that participants do not know how the scoring mechanism works.

        Pipeline

        The candle embedded in the small box selects the interval 12, 13, 23, 24 using the `pose_landmark` property of the MediaPipe. Python is used to determine whether it is black, white, or gray, or whether it is in color, and sends the information to the Arduino. The Arduino then controls the servo motor to adjust it to the appropriate position.

        We created a puzzle-solving robot. In fact, I wanted the lamp to have different functions, rather than just being a lighting tool. In many situations, we need light to provide ambiance and illumination, but it would also be a great concept if it could participate in interactions with people and offer different games.

        We plan to turn this idea into a final, actual product.

        Question Interface

        This project started from a classic “Turtle Soup”(in China culture) lateral thinking puzzle.

        We used HTML to compile the user game, and we used the ChatGPT API to enable interaction between the riddle machine and the player. The riddle machine can understand the player's answers, instead of only triggering effects with specific keyword combinations.

      • Border Imaging

        This project was inspired by my thinking about the existence of free will in the holographic universe theory. Record the trajectory of the audience as it shuttles between programming devices.

        I introduced the holographic universe theory and the two concepts of free will into the design. The audience must first pass through a completely black space, which is the only way for this work, and those who participate in the interaction of the device are responsible for controlling the Kinect to record this process.
